Lipstick Lovin'

It's Tuesday, which is my 'chill day' as of late, and a little 'me time' is much needed! After a dentist appointment this morning, I took a little stroll to the shop to buy some strawberries and creme fraiche (and doughnuts. If I put it in brackets, maybe nobody will notice the unhealthy part?) and my copy of LOOK magazine before putting this post together.

I may be a little late for #NationalLipstickDay, but it's always appropriate to show some appreciation for your favourite lipsticks! I'm not huge on lipsticks, so don't have a massive collection. For me, it's the part of my make up routine that I most easily forget/can live without, but I do always wear it for occasions/nights out. So here are my current favourites, accompanied by the lip-liners I wear with them:

L'oreal Paris Color Riche Exclusive Reds in 'Eva' (£6.99) with MUA Lip Liner in 'Red Drama' (£1.00)

Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids in 'Electric Orange (£6.99) with GOSH Velvet Touch Lip Liner in 'Flirty Orange' (£4.99)

Bourjois Rouge Edition Lipstick in '02, Beige Trench' (£7.99)
Kate Moss Nude Collection for Rimmel in '40' (£5.49)
Velvet Teddy by MAC (£15.50)
all with Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner in 'Eastend Snob' (£3.99)

Diva by MAC (£15.50) with MAC Lip Pencil in 'Beet' (£12.50)

Pink Nouveau by MAC (£15.50). I'm yet to find a lip liner for this!

Pink Nouveau on the right was gifted to me by a lovely friend, but I can't find a liner to pair it with!

I have been on the hunt for a perfect merlot coloured lipstick for ages. Sadly, I have still not found quite what I'm looking for, but this came very close! I bought this combo after seeing a friend using Diva on a night out. I accidentally purchased the liner in 'Beet' rather than 'Vino' though; it is a little too pink for this lipstick, but with some careful application, it looks alright!

This Maybelline lipstick in 'electric orange' is my favourite! I usually stick to matte lipsticks, but I had to have this. After I bought it, my boyfriend told me 'you can't wear that!' and put me off for ages. When I discovered this GOSH lip liner in Superdrug, I thought, screw it, bought it, and started to wear my new fave lipstick. I love this combination. It doesn't have great staying power, so you have to top up quite a lot, but it's beautiful, so who cares?!

This Eva red by L'oreal is my favourite red lipstick. It beats any drugstore lipstick I've tried beforehand, hands down. It has a matte finish, is a deep 'Hollywood glam' red and just looks beaut! I pair it with this MUA lip liner in 'Red Drama' which works wonders given the £1 price tag.

Here are my favourite nudes. I pair them all with cult-classic 'Eastend Snob' Exaggerate lip liner by Rimmel London. The colour of this liner is fab, but I prefer pencils, because this wind-up liner breaks quite frequently and doesn't last long. Pencils are just so much easier, I think!

The Bourjois 'Beige Trench' lipstick (middle) was purchased as a compromise while Velvet Teddy was out of stock (forever!). It's a perfect warm nude colour with a lovely finish. In short, I love it!

I can't fault velvet teddy (right), it's perfect, and you've heard enough about it, surely.

The Kate Moss lipstick (left) is the most recent to be added to my lipstick collection. I don't always use a lip liner with this to be honest, it's just not necessary. In shade '40,' it does slightly remind me of that old 'foundation lips' look, but it's great when you want to keep things simple and keep the focus on your eye make-up.

Swatches. Left to right: Diva, Eva, Electric orange, Pink Nouveau, Velvet Teddy, Beige Trench, Kate Moss. Liners on my hand, left to right: Eastend Snob, Beet, Flirty Orange, Red Drama

Do any of you have any lipsticks that you could recommend? I prefer matte lipsticks, what about you?

    1. Some lipsticks are fine without liners, but for me, I find my lipstick always looks nicer when I use it! It makes my lips look fuller and means my lipstick stays on for longer xx

  8. The Eva red lipstick looks great! I always find MAC lipsticks a little drying and Chanel is my personal go-to, it has great packaging and lasts for so long!

  9. I agree that MAC lipsticks can be a little drying, but luckily I don't have dry lips and never seem to have a problem with them! I just appreciate that they don't go all over my teeth ha! I have never owned a Chanel lipstick before, I think I'm only ever likely to if I receive one as a gift to be honest, due to the price tag. I am a sucker for great packaging though! Thanks for your lovely comment :)xx

  16. Yep, Beige Trench is a great alternative to Velvet Teddy! Though it has a different finish (VT is very matte whilst BT is very moisturising), the colours are similar and achieve a similar look! Thanks all for your lovely comments :)xx

  40. That orange lippy is incredible! I have massive lips so I normally stick to mattes too, to avoid looking like a Pete Burns (if ya know what I mean..). Mac is my fave for lipsticks, especially now they have a store in Lakeside which is so bad for my bank balance! But I love finding a good cheap lipstick in Superdrug. The Rimmel Kate Moss collection never fails to impress. Lovely post as always chick :) xx
