Could You Lose Inches With Shrinking Violet?*

Like most of the female population, I have some 'problem areas' which often get me down. For me, these are my stomach and my inner thighs. Both areas are a little flabby! It seems to me like even though we know the answers to all our body problems (a healthy, balanced diet and regular exercise), we more than often hunt for a 'quick fix' and are always bitterly disappointed when they inevitably don't deliver results.

I was recently contacted by Louisa from Shrinking Violet, who launched a DIY body wrap kit in September of this year. I was so excited to give the kit a go!

What are body wrap treatments?
Body wrap treatments are often available at spas. The treatment usually entails some form of product being worked into the problem areas, before they are wrapped tightly with clingfilm. This encourages the breakdown of fat cells beneath the skin and also relieves water retention, which can give a podgier (is that a word? It is now...) appearance.

What's in the box?
Below is the box that Shrinking Violet sent me. This is the Home Kit which retails for £99 and can be purchased here.

How cute is the packaging? I love how the ribbon has been made to look like a tape measure, great attention to detail.

Inside the box, you will find:

- A bottle of Shrinking Violet solution
-A 25ml measuring cup
- A tape measure
- Your Shrinky Suit
- Measurement/progress report cards

How To Use
To use this product, follow the following steps:

1) Strip down and take your measurements. Using the progress report card, measure the areas you want to see an improvement in.
2) Definitely tie your hair up. The solution is oil based and things can get a bit messy!
3) Pour 25ml of the solution into the measuring cup.
4) Work the solution into any problem areas you have. E,g I focused the most on my stomach, hips and inner thighs and then used any surplus on my bum and upper arms.
5) Carefully put on your Shrinky suit. It comes in two parts, top and bottom, which is fairly easy! Make sure the two parts meet and you are fully covered.
6) Remain in the suit for a full hour. I think this is supposed to work best when you keep active/hot.
7) After an hour, remove the suit and work any excess oil into the skin.
8) Take your measurements again and document any losses.

I have been informed that this product works best when used twice weekly.

My Results
Immediately after use, I took my measurements. Unfortunately, the only apparent loss was one inch from my hips, and this could potentially be down to a misreading. The solution is supposed to keep working, so I didn't shower it off. Instead, I just worked into my skin and then sat around in jogging bottoms for a while. After 24 hours, I took my measurements again, and there was no difference.

The Verdict
I do think that this is a revolutionary product and I believe that it will be popular. If you're really into numbers and figures when it comes to your body, I'm sure you will love this. I personally like to go by how I feel.

I didn't experience any mind-blowing results using this product. Furthermore, I felt absolutely ridiculous wearing this suit, and felt gross and sticky at the end of the hour. This is definitely not something I would purchase, but I know that there are millions of women who buy into fad diets and products like these.

Would you consider buying a product like this? Have you invested in any DIY weight loss products? Let me know what you think of this!

  3. The packaging is amazing! I love the ribbon! It's disappointing you didn't see any results straight away but maybe after a few more uses it will be more noticeable! I've never tried anything like this but the suit looks hilarious!

  4. I defintely would not invest in something like this as I believe companies are selling a complete fantasy. I would try it if it was free of course and then recommend it if it worked!

  6. Ow I am not sure I would wear this around the house… the suit looks quite funny and the results seemed to be a bit disappointing, however, perhaps before an important date it might help you to feel a bit ‘lighter’ …hmm not so sure though!

    1. I'd rather lose inches by laughing than by walking around in a space suit, covered in oil ha!
