Review: Style Lux Blackhead Removal Mask*

In the past, I have used a multitude of skincare products to try and ascertain the routine that works best for my skin. Having combination skin requires a careful choice of products, as the wrong ones can turn you into an oil machine or a flaky mess. Though I think I have found the products which work best for me in terms of cleansing, toning and moisturising, I still struggle with blackheads on and around my nose, and have never been sure how to go about tackling them. So, you can only imagine how pleased I was when Satu from StyleLux contacted me, asking if I would like to review their 'Blackhead Killer!'

What is 'Blackhead Killer?'
Blackhead Killer comes in a pack of five 10ml peel-off masks. These are essentially face masks, which are black in colour and aim to reduce the size and appearance of blackheads and clear the facial pores. This product retails at £14.95 per pack, and can be purchased directly from the StyleLux website here. The product aims to fight against spots, blackheads, impurities and excess oil in just minutes. It also claims to lift dead skin and renew the skin cells to prevent future breakouts.

How to Use
Blackhead Killer applies like any other facial mask; just smear on with your fingers! This is very gloopy and quite hard to work with; make sure you don't apply it too thickly, as it will not peel off well if you do! StyleLux recommends that you leave the product to dry for ten minutes, gently peel off the mask and then cleanse with warm water. They also recommend that you follow up with a facial moisturiser!

My Thoughts
10ml is just enough of the product to cover the area where blackheads most commonly occur; between the brows, the nose, and across the center of the face (horizontally, across the bridge of the nose). I felt a bit like a duck in oil when I first applied this product; it is very gloopy and thick in consistency. It dried pretty quickly, I'd say just over ten minutes, except for the areas where I had applied it too thickly (but I just removed these bits easily with a Simple face wipe). I'd definitely take your time when removing this mask, and be gentle! I wouldn't recommend this to people with sensitive skin; it did hurt (just a little!) to remove it, and I imagine this could cause redness/rashes in those with more delicate facial skin. Don't apply it too close to the sensitive undereye area, as this is painful to peel away!

The Verdict
I'm in love with the effect this product has on my skin! This is one of those products that does exactly what it says on the pack, and I love that. My pores look minimised and my skin looks clearer and smoother, all after just one ten minute session with this product. Though it may seem quite harsh, it delivers amazing results. No pain, no gain! I would definitely purchase these once my current supply runs out, they're simply amazing!

  1. I've seen a few variations of this type of mask and I'm so intrigued by them! It sounds like a great product to use every so often to keep blackheads at bay!

    1. Same! I think what makes the StyleLux one stand out for me is that its sole purpose is to fight blackheads. Other brands put me off by labeling their masks '3 in 1,' '5 benefits for skin,' etc. because they never live up to their promises! I'd definitely recommend this one!

    1. I think you just have to be careful where you apply it! I'm the same, my threshold for pain is ridiculous, ha! This was nowhere near unbearable though, it was just a bit of a shock, since you don't get any kind of discomfort with regular face masks. I trust that it means the product is working though! :)

  4. I've used something very similar to this except in tube-form -- the Bocia peel-off mask! I loved it (peeling it off when it's dry is weirdly satisfying), however it's a little spendy :( I loved the way that it makes my skin glow, though!

    Excellent review :)

  9. I've heard of some people multi-masking, using different masks at one time to target specific areas with something that works for it. I'm at the stage where the area around my nose is starting to get a little oily while the rest of my face is dry as a desert, and I find that spot-masking helps a lot too.

Blackhead killer is such a cute name for a mask, haha. Apparently most peel-off masks hurt, I have a friend who is super into masking and she always says that they hurt a lot. I guess beauty is pain, though :P

    1. Oh wow, that's impressive! I definitely don't have time for that, ha! I've tried a few peel off masks before, and never had one that hurt. But then again, they also didn't deliver any kind of visible results. This is so worth the minimal amount of pain!

  14. I've been really interested in Backhead Removal Masks recently, but I'm just worried that they'll take out the good sebum instead. Ah, the things I worry about! This one sounds really effective, though I have super sensitive skin, so it might be a bit too harsh for me. Great, precise review though! <3

    1. I totally get your concern! Yep, I definitely found this one effective, but understand that everyone's skin is different and what may work for one personal may not necessarily work for the next. I'd recommend something a little more gentle for your sensitive skin. Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed the review! :)

    1. Oh no! I wouldn't call it 'super painful' at all! It's a slight discomfort and that's all! The results are visible almost straight away, and that's what I think makes it worth it x
