My First Lash Extensions and the Best Place for Lashes in Essex

As most beauty addicts are, I've always been a bit obsessed with false lashes. I've tried loads of brands over the years, but the ones I've worn most often have been unbranded ones from eBay, which cost £2.70 for a pack of ten! I've always found them to be great value for money, and look great paired with the clear lash glue I buy from Savers, which costs £1 for a pack of three small tubes. Sometimes though, strip lashes just don't fit the bill, as was pointed out to me by my friend Zonnia recently. Our graduation was on Saturday, 19th November 2016 (post to come!), and in the build-up to it, Zonnia pointed out that any little mistake with strip lashes would show up on camera, since the graduation head shots are professionally taken close-ups. I decided to book in for an appointment at the new salon in Rayleigh, Essex: Fairytale Lashes and Beauty.

Christmas Wishlist 2016 ft. Chi Chi, Violet Voss, Lisa Jewell, Remington & More

It's nearly Christmas, hooray! While Christmas is about much more than the presents, I thought it would be fun to share with you my 2016 Christmas wishlist. I loved compiling this one for my birthday in September, so Christmas was the perfect excuse to compile another visual wish list! Here are bits I've been eyeing up recently:

The Best Place to Buy Branded Lashes on the Cheap*

As is every beauty lover out there, I'm slightly obsessed with false lashes. They complete any look and seem to make everything a bit more glam. While I don't wear them as often as I used to, I still love to rock a pair of falsies for special occasions and nights out. I used to buy false eyelashes in packs of ten from eBay. While they did the job for every day wear, branded lashes are definitely worth splurging a little more on for evening wear. The likes of Eylure always seem to appear a bit more natural. They're also a lot more comfortable to wear for longer periods of time and can be reused. The only problem is that they are expensive if you're wearing them quite frequently, and unless Boots and/or Superdrug have a 3 for 2 offer on, your bank balance will hate you. So, when www.falseeyelashes.co.uk got in contact and asked me whether I'd like to trial their service, I was more than happy to oblige! Stick around to find out why they're the best false lash retail on the UK market...

My MAC Lipstick Collection & Swatches and Why I won't be Buying MAC Lipsticks Again

Left to right: Whirl, Pink Noveau, Diva, Sin, Lust Extract, O,Velvet Teddy, Stone
I've been putting off writing this post for a while for two reasons. Firstly, MAC lipsticks are so damn hard to photograph! The shimmery bullets just look awful every time I edit them, as bringing out the contrast makes the silver look white-ish and unnatural. Ugh. #bloggerproblems. Secondly, I was worried that this would come across as really negative and be a bit like brand-bashing. I'd like to reassure you that that definitely isn't the case! I think MAC is a great brand. Besides, they're such a huge brand, that my opinion means diddly-squat anyways.

Life Update: My First Car & My New Job!

If you read my last 'Life Update' post here then you'll recall that I left uni and my part-time job behind in June 2016 and became... an adult. Dun dun dun. Well, five months later, and a few more things have changed, so I thought I'd share just a couple of them, to keep my little ol' blog up-to-date.

Winter Shopping & Black Friday*

The weather has definitely taken a turn lately! I've had to ditch the light jackets and hoodies and opt for my proper winter coat in the mornings! I haven't quite gotten round to doing my proper A/W shop yet, but it's definitely in the pipeline. Right now, my hands are like blocks of ice and I find myself reaching for boots which have really had their day. I guess I'll just have to go shopping, won't I?! (excuse nailed).

Travel | Lassi, Kefalonia & Princess Hotel

I started this blog with the intention of digitally scrapbooking certain elements of my life. When I was younger, I made multiple half-hearted attempts at starting/maintaining a diary/journal, but I was absolutely terrible at it. The truth is that my life isn't all that exciting. Not in a bad way, just in a normal way. I've recently been sunning myself on the coast of Bodrum, Turkey, and it dawned on me that documenting my travel experiences could be a great way to remember the best times. Adding a 'travel' element to my blog has never been on the horizon before, because I'm such a homebird. Packing a bag and heading off travelling has never been on the cards for me, but I love reviewing hotels and restaurants (if I were to win the Euro Millions, I'd become a hotelier for sure).

LUSH Rosy Cheeks Review*

If you read my post Birthday Beauty Wishlist, or if you follow me on Instagram herethen you'll know I've had my eye on the LUSH Rosy Cheeks mask for a while. A while ago, I wrote this post here which reviewed the LUSH Mask of Magnaminty, which I'm absolutely obsessed with, and ever since then, I've been itching to review more of LUSH's products. Luckily for me, my best friend bought me Rosy Cheeks as part of my birthday present (to see what else I got for my bday, click here). So, here I am today to let you all know what I think of it...

"You Don't Need That Muck on Your Face"

'You don't need that muck on your face!' Do you know how many times I have been faced with this sentence? I don't; I've lost count. Although I assume it's intended as a light-hearted comment or perhaps even a compliment, I find it pretty offensive. Let me tell you why...

A (Small) Makeup Declutter & What Went

The time has come: I'm flying the nest and finally moving into my first home with my lovely boyfriend of five years. I've been waiting years for this moment and I cannot begin to describe my excitement (though, if you've read any of my recent posts, you'll already understand how excited I am about having my own bathroom and en-suite... eep!). The only downside is the immense clear-out that I had put off and off (and off). Somehow, makeup was easier than shoes (don't hate me, makeup hoarders!), and I've manage to make a start. So here is a (small) makeup declutter and the items which didn't quite make the cut...

UD All Nighter Foundation Review: Shade 0.5 Swatches

Ooh, I'm so excited about this one! I wouldn't say I'm a huge Urban Decay fan, to be honest, but when I heard that this was being released, I was indescribably excited. When it comes to base products, I've always sung UD's praises. Their Naked Weightless concealer is a cult product, with good reason. It's my holy grail full coverage concealer, and don't get me started on their setting sprays! So I knew I just had to have their new All Nighter Foundation in my collection.

Amsterdam Diary & Recommendations

I took 161 photographs on my Nikon D3300 over the course of our five day trip. Snap happy? Perhaps, but I have no regrets; this was one of the happiest trips of my lifetime, and I’m so glad I got to document it well. Whittling it down to these 47 (an odd number, I know) for you to look at it was difficult, but I think I’ve picked wisely! I wasn’t able to photograph everything we did, so I thought I’d do a quick run through of my trip at the end of my photo diary; hopefully this gives you some inspiration for your own Dutch getaway! Stick around to hear more about my mini vacay...

How to Save on Your Weekly Shop*

Ah, the weekly food shop... for those amongst us who are less-than organised, this can often involve walking mindlessly, aisle to aisle, wondering what we actually came in for, and arriving home feeling perplexed as we stare at our boot full of broccoli and pop tarts. 8 Ways to Avoid 'Oops!' Moments This Summer*

Don't you just hate those people who live seemingly picture-perfect lives? You know the ones I mean: the ones with Pinterest worthy vanity areas, an impressive collection of designer shoes and bags, the white Range Rover and the passport with more stamps and stickers than a well-renewed library book. They seem to never have a hair out of place. But, here's the thing: nobody is perfect. These people simply have the luxury of living their lives through a lens. What you see is the end result of a lengthy process of editing and airbrushing. In reality, these people probably have their fair share of 'oops!' moments (and by that, we all know I mean 'oh shit!' moments), just like you and I. You know what I'm talking about... those moments in life when you've spent hours washing, blow-drying and straightening your hair and then you step outside and it instantly gets stuck in your lipgloss or ruined by the merciless downpours. The ones where you've spent hours on your makeup and then the sun sends it sliding down your face. The ones where you've been out and about all day, completely oblivious to the fact that your skirt has been tucked into your knickers. Yep... we've all been there. C'est la vie! These moments are, unfortunately, unavoidable. However, here are a few tips for keeping mishaps at bay this summer...

Moroccanoil Dry Shampoo Review*

Calling all lazy girls! Well, I hope I'm not the only one whose hair is 90% dry shampoo by the time the weekend rolls round? Don't judge! Now, I've been relying on my trusty Batiste since I was about 15 years old, so I was a little dubious when the lovely Zoe, from Bath and Unwind, contacted me about trying a new dry shampoo. Zoe popped the Moroccanoil dry shampoo in the post for me, and I've been testing this out over the last few weeks. If you've been keeping up with my Instagram (click here to join the action), then you'll know that this little saviour was a god send for me during the mini heatwave we've recently encountered, here in South East England. Well, today I'm bringing you a more in depth review. Kick back, grab a cuppa and listen to me rambling on about dry shampoo... beats working, right?

MAC vs MUFE: Transparent Setting Powders

This time a couple of years ago, if you had asked me what my favourite transparent powder was, I'd have looked at you like you were speaking Mandarin. 'Eh? Transparent...' I never really used powders, because I believed they looked 'cakey.' In other words, they reminded me of the awful concoctions I used to wear on my face when I was fourteen years old. This all changed when I decided it was high time I ventured into a MAC shop.

'But, What Even is a Blog?' | The Misconceptions of Blogging

Even before I had my own blog, I knew what blogging was. The concept was never alien to me. Growing up in the digital age has meant there's rarely an IT term that stretches beyond my vocabulary. I think sometimes my natural abilities when it comes to computer literacy seem so natural that I just (wrongly) assume that everyone else is on the same wavelength. It was only when I started blogging that I noticed the following: blogging isn't as widespread as I had assumed; there are loads of blogs out there, but many of them have been abandoned, and; the majority of non-bloggers have many misconceptions about blogging.

10 Tips for Forging PR Relationships

Today, I will be discussing a subject which I feel is fairly under-discussed. I find it absolutely crazy that the sore subject (and often complete myth!) of 'freebies' surrounding bloggers is discussed so frequently, but real-life (rather than mythological), hard-earned PR affiliations have become such a taboo, 'hush-hush' topic, that it's tough for newer bloggers to ask about without feeling embarrassed or ashamed.

Is Breast Reduction Surgery Right for You?*

Hiya ladies! Today, I've teamed up with Gary Ross to bring you a post all about breast reduction surgery. As a 34F myself, I have first-hand experience on the disadvantages of being a bustier lady. As well as the minor inconveniences bustier women experience, such as never being able to find cute, matching undies or a pretty bikini, and forking out a flippin' arm and a leg for a comfy bra (which still looks like it would be more suited to your grandma's underwear drawer), bigger boobs can also have negative consequences on health!

Duck & Dry Instant TLC and Blow Dry in a Bottle*

Over the years, I have played with the colour of my hair more than the style. I've bleached my hair to near obliteration, dyed it pink, brown, purple and black; however, it's always maintained a very similar style. See, my hair doesn't exactly cooperate when it comes to change. I have naturally dead-straight, silky hair (with a cute little cowlick amidst the fringe). Sounds like a dream, right? Wrong. I can spend hours curling my hair with tongs, and, to my dismay, it will drop in less than a couple of hours. I can twist and turn my hair into an abundance of up-do's. Do you think it stays put? Of course it doesn't! So, you can see why I'm always interested in learning about new hair styling products, especially ones that promise fuller hair. My hair is pretty flat and not as thick as it would be in an ideal world. So, when I was offered the opportunity to trial two of Duck & Dry's hair products, I leapt at the chance!

LUSH Mask of Magnaminty Review

I very rarely shop at Lush, for the following reasons: a) my local branch in Southend-on-Sea shut down years ago, *sobs* and b) I'm currently living with my parents, and we don't have a bath in our family home. I've always known Lush was about more than bath bombs and bubble bars (fun story: my first ever Lush purchase was a powdered deodorant bar. It was white and lemon-scented. I left it at the bottom of my P.E bag when I was twelve and inadvertently smashed it to smithereens. I had to throw the powdery bag away), but the thought of gazing at all their beautiful bath products and not being able to make a purchase put me off going into their stores. Well times are a-changing!

Review | Firmoo Sunglasses*

Today, I'd like to introduce you to a brand which only recently became known to me... Firmoo! Firmoo is a global, online optical store. They sell both prescription and non-prescription glasses and sunglasses. Although I don't wear glasses, I was definitely more enthralled by their range of sunglasses, anyway; they're a lot more fashionable in my opinion! Most of their non-prescription sunglasses start at just £12.18/$19, which is an absolute bargain! Their prices are super competitive, since they only operate online and are therefore free from overhead expenses incurred by traditional high-street stores. Recently, Firmoo were kind enough to send me these beautiful sunglasses, which I have been absolutely loving in these early stages of spring! Unfortunately, I've been unable to capture a photograph of myself wearing them due to time constraints, but I assure you... these look absolutely fab on!

Social Media is Not the Problem

Today, a (rare) visit from my maternal granddad provoked a train of thought so long, that it inevitably led to this very blog post. Now, I love my granddad, don't get me wrong, but he can be very old-fashioned and stuck in his ways. For example: today, I wore a combination of MAC's 'Sin' lipstick and 'Nightmoth' lip liner, which - for those of you less enthused by makeup - creates a very 'severe' look (as my mum puts it). The first thing my granddad said to me was 'awful lipstick' *eye rolls for days.* He's very outspoken, as you can tell!

Micellar Water: Skincare Game Changer or Major Flop?

Micellar waters became all the rage in 2015, and I couldn't resist jumping on the bandwagon. I had to see what all the fuss was about, given the very bold claims from companies such as L'Oreal, Garnier and Simple about how easy they make makeup removal. I opted for this L'Oreal Paris micellar water over it's most popular rival, the Garnier version, because I prefer the packaging. The packaging is plain and simple, aesthetically pleasing, and to be honest, the pink caught my eye. The 200ml bottle retails at £4.99 and is available to purchase here from Superdrug.

The Week in Words #1

Perhaps I should start with a brief intro here, seeing as you don't normally hear from me on a Sunday? Perhaps. Well, when I started this blog, I immediately labelled it as a 'beauty and lifestyle' blog, without much thought into how I would tailor my content to live up to that label. I just went with the flow and got caught up in a whirlwind of foundation reviews and chit-chat. Well, I guess what I'm trying to say here is that I've had a think, and I've decided that a weekly round-up could well be the solution. Keeping a journal is supposedly very therapeutic, so I'm hoping that this little series will be beneficial in more ways than one! I'm fully aware that these posts may not be as popular as my Tuesday posts (which are almost always beauty related), but these Sunday posts are more for me than for anyone else (how selfish of me, ha). I'm not promising a post every Sunday, just when I feel like I have something to say.

No7 Beautiful Skin Cleansing Brush | Review

I've wanted a facial cleansing brush for ages, but I couldn't decide between the Clarisonic Mia 2 (£125), Magnitone Barefaced (£70) and Clinique Sonic System brush (£79). Price was a big factor for me, I won't lie. I'm a student, working part-time, which means I don't exactly have money to burn! On top of that, I'm moving out in August, so I'm having to be extra vigilant when it comes to my spending. Despite my urges, I held off purchasing any of the cleansing brushes that had caught my eye, as they're all a lot of money, and I didn't know how I'd get on with them.

Vichy Dermablend Foundation Review

If you're a blogger, this foundation is probably already on your radar. For me, this was definitely a blogger-induced buy! However, if you're not a blogger/beauty enthusiast, you're probably yet to hear about Vichy, because, in my opinion, it is an up and coming brand. So let me introduce you... Thermal spa water from the hot springs of Vichy in France is the only water used in its products. 'Life With a Sprinkle of Glitter' is a gloriously pink little book, written by blogger and YouTuber, Louise Pentland. It's crazy that in today's society, people can start in the digital industry as first-time bloggers, build their brand and their following and move into the world of print.
