Review | Life With a Sprinkle of Glitter by Louise Pentland

'Life With a Sprinkle of Glitter' is a gloriously pink little book, written by blogger and YouTuber, Louise Pentland. I get a bit overexcited when I see any kind of print involving bloggers I recognise; am I the only one who thinks that's kind of a big deal?! It's crazy that in today's society, people can start in the digital industry as first-time bloggers, build their brand and their following and move into the world of print.

I picked this little beauty up for £6 in Tesco (a little more reasonable that the RRP of £12.99). This book is extremely eye-catching. Aesthetically, you cannot fault it. It's very 'scrapbook chic,' and adopts the same personable style that most blogs come with. It's a weighty little book! Perhaps not one for your hand luggage! I love the fact it comes with a lovely pink ribbon bookmark, cute!

This book covers topics such as: beauty and pampering, partying, travelling, setting up home, crafts, bullying, body-confidence, dating, babies and positive outlooks. Louise introduces the book by stating that it is intended to be the type of book where you can 'methodically' look at each chapter in order or 'dance around with wild abandon' looking at whatever you like. I personally think it's easier to do the latter, as the book doesn't follow any logical order anyway; it needn't do.

For me, this is essentially a book of common sense. It doesn't offer anything ground-breaking or substantial, it's more of a personal collection of life lessons learnt by the author. For me, this was like flicking through a magazine, or reading a really long blog post. I think this book better suits a younger audience. In my opinion, it would make for the perfect gift for a young teenage girl, looking to delve into the world of beauty and girly-girlness for the very first time. Nonetheless, I am imagining how beautiful this will look on my bookshelf in the house I am looking to buy!

Hats off to Louise for her hard work and dedication in getting this book to print. I cannot imagine how wonderful it must feel to hold your very first published works or the see it on the supermarket shelves.

What do you make of bloggers creating their own print material? Have you read any bloggers' books before?

  1. I love the fact more and more bloggers are having their work printed! I definitely see it as inspiration and proof that hard work can pay off when it comes to our little blogs :) I bought my 15-year-old sister Zoella's books and she loved them, and I think this would probably fall into the same age group. I don't know many bloggers that have released books that are more suited for our age?

Lovely blog post as always, Laura <3

    1. I agree! Aw, that's lovely, glad she enjoyed them! No, me neither. When it comes to beauty books, I do enjoy Beauty by Lauren Conrad and I've just bought Pretty Honest by Sali Hughes. Thanks, sweet!xxx

    1. It's so crazy, isn't it?! I'd love to read a book by Anna of Vivianna Does Makeup, but focusing more on the social media and marketing side of things (rather than basic 'how-to's' and bits about makeup), I think that would be interesting!

  5. I'm never into buying these books that the big YouTubers have released as they do seem like they target a very young audience. Nice cover though :) x

  6. It seems like all the blogger books, e-books, presentations, etc. I've come across are the same watered down information all selling the same crap: just keep going and you'll make it! haha yeah right. Honestly, the most helpful thing I've ever done is gotten a job in social media... that knowledge is the only reason I still even have a blog :)

    1. I totally agree! At the end of the day, bloggers aren't beauty/skincare experts and have nothing substantial to offer by way of advice. I'd much rather read about their personal lives and stories, how they became successful in the blogging world and bits about social media and marketing. Wow, it must be fantastic to work in social media!? I'd love a job in communications, PR and social media, but I don't have any experience or a qualification in it!

  7. Aw what a cute little book, I like the fact that it's like flicking through a magazine or reading lots of different blog posts - makes it more personal!

  8. I haven't bought any blogger books before as like you said they seem to be aimed for young teenage girls. Nothing wrong with it though, I still read the odd Jacqueline Wilson book now and again haha. Good luck with the house hunting Laura!

    1. Which is odd, don't you think? I'd say the average age of bloggers whose blogs I read on a weekly basis and communicate with is roughly 22-25, so why are 'blogger books' written seemingly for the 13-16 age bracket? I'd love to see something a little different! Thank you, lovely!

  11. I haven't bought any books that bloggers have published only because they are aimed for young teenaged girls, as this is their target market. I have found that a lot of us young adults (early 20's or whatever it may be) do follow a lot of bloggers and it's a shame that they haven't published anything for their older audience.
I also don't have a problem with other's writing their books for them, as it's understandable that they are no professionals BUT I wish they were just honest about it :)!

  12. I completely agree, transparency is key. Yes, there should definitely be more print material available to bloggers in their twenties and older xx

  13. I know a lot of people hate that YT's are making books, but nobody would turn down that oppurtunity and they deserve the success as they have been making videos for what five years plus?! Success didn't happen overnight! xx

    1. I completely agree. They put so much effort into creating content, filming and editing. Anybody who can say they'd turn down opportunities like those is, quite frankly, lying!xx

  14. Hi :) I've just talked about this book on my blog too ! I'm 21 and of course this is not my genre of book but I really like it. It's a nice book when you want a bit of me time and relax. I also find some tips very useful :) xx
