My Blog's 1st Birthday & a Look Back at the Past Year

Last week marked one year since I started blogging! Yup, that's right - on 10th May 2015 I created this blog (click here to read why), and here I am, a whole year later! Time flies when you're having fun, aye?! I wish I could give you all that 'I just can't believe I made it this far' nonsense, but, the truth is, I always knew I'd stick to it; I don't exactly do things by halves, and when I decide to do something, I really go for it. I'm proud that my blog was born from that attribute!

I thought it would be fun to look back on my first year of blogging and list a few of my proudest moments, favourite posts and lessons I've learned. If you think this is me blowing my own trumpet, well... you're darn right! No, no... in all seriousness, I am incredibly proud of my blogging achievements, but they aren't and never have been the be all and end all; I write for me and I encourage all bloggers to do the same and to avoid feeling disheartened if they aren't meeting the goals they've set themselves... it's all a bit of fun guys!

  • Being invited to three blogging events in my first year of blogging. I attended the Pegasus Health and Beauty Showcase 2015 in September 2015 (post here), the Next Beauty Event in March 2016 (post here) and the Saturated Colour Beauty Bloggers Event in May 2016 (post here). I thoroughly enjoyed each of these events and I feel a lot more comfortable about going to them on my own and mingling with other bloggers now.
  • Meeting Hanna of Hanna Talks and Pam of Pam Scalfi.
  • Guest posting for one of my favourite bloggers - London Beauty Queen. In February 2016, I wrote this post about bladder weakness as part of Hayley's 'Let's Talk About It' series.
  • Buying my first DSLR camera. I used some of the money my parents gave me for my 21st birthday to invest in a Nikon D3300. I know it isn't everyone's first choice and I often wonder whether I should have gone with the Olympus Pen, but I put a lot of time into researching my camera, staring at it in Jessops, Oxford Street and googling reviews. I absolutely love it!
  • Setting up my own domain (purchased from Fast Hosts) and purchasing a custom template from Pretty Wild Things
  • Changing my outlook: becoming more confident and care-free. When I first decided I wanted to create a blog, a lot of people told me not to; some even told me it would be 'social suicide.' I hated the idea of being judged, of people thinking my blog was geeky, narcissistic or superficial. However, after a year of blogging, I've had the last laugh. I've had the privilege of working with some fantastic brands and meeting some lovely people. Blogging has bought nothing but positivity to my life and I no longer shy away from the fact that I blog; I'll tell anybody who asks and I'll speak proudly about my fantastic hobby.

Hopes and Plans for the Future

  • To improve my photography. Owning a DSLR has somewhat improved my photography. I've learned to use my camera on aperture priority mode to change the depth of field, however, I'd love to learn more about the exposure triangle and using the manual mode. I'd also love to use shutter priority mode to shoot some stunning city shots.
  • To improve my domain authority. It currently stands at 19, though I would love to get it above 30.
  • To continue maintaining my blog during full-time employment. I'm finishing university in a few weeks time. I'm extremely nervous, but also very excited, about the next chapter in my life. I will thoroughly enjoy having my weekends back and more stability and routine in my life. I only hope that I continue to maintain this blog weekly once my responsibilities increase.
  • To write more lifestyle posts including interiors and personal posts. I'm moving out in August; that's right, me and my boyfriend have purchased our first property together in Leigh-on-Sea, and I cannot wait! I'm hoping to post more about our move, interiors, home accessories and general life.
  • To meet more new people and develop new friendships. I've already met some lovely people on my blogging journey. I hope to attend more events in the future, and with that comes meeting new people.
  • To grow my Twitter, Instagram and Bloglovin' following. My Bloglovin' following has grown to 720 over the last year, which I am extremely happy with. My Twitter following currently stands at just over 600, however, it's Instagram I'm struggling the most with! If you fancy helping a gal out, you can follow me on IG by clicking here
  • To attend more events and meetups
  • To develop more PR relationships. I've worked with some fantastic brands over the last year (you can see which brands I've worked with by viewing my media kit here). In the future, I'd love to work with some more high street brands such as LUSH, Soap & Glory and The Body Shop.

Thank you to all my readers and followers for making my blog what it is today! I can only hope that the year of blogging ahead will be just as successful and enjoyable!

    1. Thank you! My DA currently stands at 21 which is a 3% increase from the last time I checked. I think the best way to improve DA is to get your link out there! Creating more back links is the most effective way of improving, so perhaps try guest posting for a few people? Thanks so much for your kind words, I'm excited to see what the next year brings for me and my fellow bloggers!

  7. Congratulations on a year of blogging! Great goals too.
