Winter Shopping & Black Friday*

The weather has definitely taken a turn lately! I've had to ditch the light jackets and hoodies and opt for my proper winter coat in the mornings! I haven't quite gotten round to doing my proper A/W shop yet, but it's definitely in the pipeline. Right now, my hands are like blocks of ice and I find myself reaching for boots which have really had their day. I guess I'll just have to go shopping, won't I?! (excuse nailed).

My plan this year is to buy the less expensive items like hats, scarves and gloves as and when I see them. There are always loads in the shops, and its usually fairly easy to find them on offer! I'm not particularly bothered about finding the most fashionable gloves, because, let's be honest... they're there to serve a purpose, not to look particularly special! However, when it comes to the more expensive items like footwear and winter coats, my plan is to wait a couple of weeks for the Black Friday sales.
I never usually get excited about Black Friday, but a colleague of mine went a bit cray with it all last year and managed to scoop up some major deals. Retailers cutting their prices by up to 80%, means you can get some amazing bargains, and thankfully, it isn't as crazy as it is in America (yet). This year, Black Friday falls on 25th November. From past experience with the sales, I'd recommend locating the items you want (like coats and boots), having the pages up on your laptop and refreshing as soon as Black Friday deals launch. This way, you're more likely to snatch up a bargain before everything goes out of stock! I'm not too certain what I'm looking for at the moment, but hopefully there are some lovely jumpers in the sale! Here are a few things I've been looking at recently:
Winter coats
The classic single-breasted winter coat was a popular choice in the eighties and has recently made its return in Vogue, so I anticipate seeing this cut in the shops a lot this winter! For casual wear, parkas and duffle coats are making a comeback (praise the lord!). Parkas definitely suit my hourglass figure more than the single-breasted coats in the shops. My favourite coats are the fit and flare styles with faux fur around the neck.
Winter boots
For 2016, knee-high boots are set to be a key piece in most ladies' wardrobes! Unfortunately, these often carry a hefty price tag, but can definitely be considered a 'staple piece' and surely that makes them an investment?! I have seen so many lovely boots this year, and since I've recently had a clear out, I definitely have the room for a couple more pairs...
The majority of the ones I have seen so far are available in black or brown, but there are also some nice red and burgundy ones out there. Most are close fitting, so if you have bigger calves, I'd recommend opting for wider fitting ones.
Knitwear
No winter wardrobe would be complete without some nice knitwear! Again, there is great selection out there. Heavy textures are back in Vogue and many designers have also included print designs in their collections this year, so you will have no problem finding the perfect jumper or cardigan for you.
Occasion/Party wear
Christmas party coming up? You'll definitely be needing a new dress and some new heels. One of the reasons I love this time of year is that it's so social! I love all the parties and meetups, but the pressure to always have a new outfit can sometimes put a strain on my bank balance! If you're stuck for ideas when family members ask you what you'd like for Christmas, I'd recommend asking for giftcards, which will help pad out your A/W wardrobe without breaking the bank!

So, they're my plans for winter shopping, what are yours? Anything you're looking out for in the sales this year?

  7. I personally feel there's too many sales back to back, I'm in Canada so we have Sephora VIB sale then Black Friday and finally Cyber Monday. Just too much of it and I skipped Black Friday and Cyber Monday this year.
