Taking a Step Back from Blogging

I've been mulling this over for a few weeks now, but I've finally decided that after a glorious 20 months of running this little blog, it's time to take a step back. It isn't because I don't enjoy it anymore; in fact, I'll be sad to let it go. It's simply because I feel I have more important things to focus my time and energy on.

This New Year, my resolutions were simple and achievable: to swim more, read more and go back to university. I've signed up for a swim membership at my leisure and tennis centre and I'm planning on swimming every day (we'll see how that goes!) before work. I've also applied to study on the legal practice course (postgraduate diploma) part-time at London Metropolitan University (fingers crossed!). As for the reading? Well, I have two paperbacks by Lisa Jewell waiting on my bookshelf. I read 'I Found You' by the same author while on holiday in Turkey last year (so weird calling 2016 'last year') and I absolutely loved it. So, so far, so good with the resolutions...

I'm off on holiday to Florida in June with the in-laws and I am desperate to lose some weight before going. I have been eating a lot healthier since July 2016, when I looked down at the scales and decided enough was enough. I haven't been doing anything drastic since then; I stopped buying lunches and started taking packed lunches to work; I started eating more fruit and less chocolate. I've lost 11lbs so far, since July. That may not seem like a massive achievement, as I realise that that is an incredibly slow rate to be losing weight at, but it has made a difference to the way I feel in myself and it also meant I got to wear a killer bodycon dress for my graduation (thank you River Island!). The plan now is to step up my game by introducing exercise to my daily life and hopefully this will kick start my weight loss. Swimming is the only exercise I actually enjoy, so was an obvious choice. I've tried gym-ing it before, but I felt so exposed and embarrassed at the gym, it put me off. When I  swim, I feel content in my own little bubble, as I bob along the pool.

My boyfriend and I recently bought our first place together. We moved in on 9th December 2016 and I have enjoyed every moment of building our home together. I thought it would be stressful moving home so close to Christmas, but I am actually so glad we got to move and shop for everything during the festive period. My memories of moving into our first home together will now forever be associated with awful Christmas songs playing in The Range and Argos and putting up our first (white) Christmas tree together.

So, in between all the swimming, reading, studying, housework and grocery shopping, I'll be left with very little time. The time I do have would much rather be spent on family and friends, putting in that little bit of extra effort with assignments, pushing myself a little bit harder in the pool and reading "just another chapter..." than reviewing yet another shampoo or lipstick. I enjoy cosmetics and skincare, but writing review after review is no longer enjoyable to me.

Although I'm taking a step back (and who knows? Perhaps it will be temporary), I'm not abandoning my little blog altogether. I'm no longer going to accept every PR offer that comes my way or put pressure on myself to meet deadlines and adhere to schedules. I've loved building a little following and connecting with brands, but for me, it was never really about that. From now on, I'm only going to post if I feel I really have something to say. I expect this will mean the 'lifestyle' aspect of my blog is going to be given a huge boost! I'd much rather discuss things I've been up to, photos, memories and feelings, which I can look back on in five or ten years' time.

Thank you to everybody who has supported me in my blogging venture!

  1. I'm sorry to hear you'll be taking a step back from blogging, though very pleased it's on a high note of having applied for a course you're passionate about and moving into a new home with your boyfriend! Wishing you all the best for the future... and hoping you'll one day return to blogging ;)

  2. Lifestyle posts are my favourite, so I'm excited that your blog will be more focused on them, even if you'll be posting a lot less frequently. In the end, blogging is a hobby and you ought to always put your happiness before anything else. I'm heading to FLorida too this year and really want to cut back on my weight a little: 11lbs is amazing!

    1. Me too! I'd much rather read about what someone has been up to lately than the newest lipstick in their collection... that's probably because I'm nosy haha! I can't wait to make my blog more about my memories. Hope you have a fab time in Florida and achieve your weight loss goals. Thank you... still a long way to go!
